ABOUT THE BAND

The Capitol Sounds Concert Band in Montgomery, Alabama, is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization supported by the City of Montgomery Parks and Recreation Department.

The current band was organized in 1972 as a recreational activity of the Cloverdale Community Center by a small nucleus of former high school and college band members. It was known as the Montgomery Community Band. In July of 2000, the members voted to change the name to the Capitol Sounds Concert Band.

The band performs a wide variety of music, including marches, classical, patriotic, show tunes, jazz and swing. Visit our library to see an alphabetical listing of the music we have.

The membership represents a broad spectrum of backgrounds including doctors, educators, lawyers, military personnel, senior adults and college students. Most of the players live in the Montgomery area but some come from towns in the counties surrounding Montgomery.

New members are always welcome. Membership is open to all who have finished high school and who want to continue playing in a concert band. Students at Alabama State University, Auburn University at Montgomery, Faulkner, and Huntingdon College are welcome. Students enrolled at AUM and Huntingdon may obtain credit for participating in the Capitol Sounds Concert Band.

The band has been fortunate in having had experienced, talented and dedicated directors throughout its thirty-seven year existence. If you would like to know more about our directors, go to our directors page.

The band provides an opportunity for musicians to enjoy a challenging and rewarding experience to play in a quality level concert band. This organization is continuing the tradition of providing concert band music for the many activities and occasions that take place in the capitol city each year. In addition, the band performs several concerts each year for Montgomery and the surrounding area.
